Some of us grew up with a village. Some of us never had one, or watched it turn its back on us. Now the village is disappearing for all of us. The Community Question explores how every kind of community, from the ones we're born into to the ones we choose, shapes who we become, and what we lose as it slips away.

Why I'm asking
I grew up in a historic neighborhood full of my father's stories and close ties to friends and neighbors. His version of that place was warm. Mine wasn't always. I lost a lot of family and community young, and it marked me.
Then, as a teenager, I moved to a cookie-cutter suburb with no real sense of connection. I'm still not over the culture shock.
Living both versions made me obsessed with one thing: what community does to a person, and what happens when it's missing.
That's what this show is. Real conversations with people about the places and people that made them, and the ones that didn't show up.
